I had many contacts with the school system, whose public information specialist is very good and I have dealt with for many years. The parent was happy to provide a waiver, but that wasn’t really the problem. I write my paper but wasn’t asking about special problems the student might have had. I was asking the much larger and important question of why they got rid of all their self-contained classes for kids with IEPs? Their answer was circular—we got rid of those classes because we no longer have any kids whose IEPs require them. But why is that, I asked? Is it because you have greatly improved your teaching of such kids? Is it because it’s too expensive?
