Between Wednesday, October 21 and Friday, October 23, the 72nd Precinct received reports of three robberies and one burglary. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.
GOOD SAMARITAN
A 24-year-old Asian woman was walking near Sixth Avenue and 54th Street on Wednesday, October 21 at approximately 3:30 p.m. when a 14-year-old Hispanic teen approached her from behind and pushed her to the ground, resulting in bruises to her head. The alleged perp then grabbed her iPhone 6 and attempted to flee the scene. As the victim ran after the thief, a witness was able to hold the suspect until police arrived and arrested him near Fifth Avenue and 55th Street. The victim was taken to NYU Lutheran Medical Center.
GASSED
Cops say that a 28-year-old black man attempted to steal a gas can from a gas station near Fort Hamilton Parkway and East Second Street on Thursday, October 22 at approximately 3:35 a.m. When one of the store’s two employees witnessed the attempted robbery, he tried to grabbed the stolen can away from the thief. The alleged perp then reportedly chased the employee back into the store and punched and kicked him.
Cops have arrested a suspect in the incident.
TEA TIME
Police say that on Friday, October 23, at approximately 8 p.m., three black men driving in a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze with Massachusetts plates pulled up next to a commercial van belonging to a 51-year-old Asian man, parked near 40th Street and Fifth Avenue. A witness observed two of the car’s occupants exiting their vehicle, breaking into the van and stealing packages of tea bags.
Later that day, cops arrested one of the suspects, a 44-year-old black man.
