72nd Precinct Police Beat: Perp poses as police officer, robs man outside his home

Between Monday, January 25 and Tuesday, February 2, the 72nd Precinct received reports of four robberies and two grand larcenies. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

BAG IT

A casual hangout went bad on Monday, January 25 at approximately 4:40 p.m.

Cops say a 16-year-old Hispanic girl was sitting in a car with a male friend, hanging out, when a 17-year-old Hispanic man approached the car and began yelling at her. Following the verbal altercation, the perp punched the girl in the face. He then demanded that the girl go home with him. When she refused, cops say the perp stole a bag from the victim’s friend to see if she would follow him home.

The perp was later arrested on robbery charges.

YOUR CAR IS RUNNING

A crook stole a car that was still running near Fourth Avenue and 36th Street on Monday, January 25 at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Cops say that a 31-year-old Hispanic woman left her 2013 Honda Pilot with the keys in the ignition and the engine running. While she left the car, an unknown male perp, described by police as black man wearing a red hoodie, broke into the car and took off with it, driving northbound on Fourth Avenue.

No arrests have been made.

MOVING TIRES

According to police, an unknown crook stole over $900 worth of goods from a vehicle parked near East Fifth Street and Greenwood Avenue on Monday, February 1 at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The male victim had parked his vehicle overnight. When he returned the following morning, he discovered that someone had broken into the car. Among the items stolen by the crooks were two Goodyear tires, a $500 laptop and a watch.

BAD MORNING

A 29-year-old white man was robbed while walking towards NYU Lutheran Medical Center on Tuesday, February 2 at approximately 7:10 a.m.

The police report that the man was heading westbound on 54th Street between Third and Fourth Avenues when a 35-year-old Hispanic man purposely bumped into him before displaying a black metal rod.

The perp pressed the weapon against the man’s chest and demanded money. He then stole the man’s iPhone and $140. Cops say the perp then demanded the man run towards Third Avenue. Cops say the perp fled toward Fourth Avenue.

GUNPOINT ROBBERY

A 32-year-old Hispanic man was held at gunpoint by a robber on his way home from work near 54th Street and Fourth Avenue on Tuesday, February 2 at approximately 3:30 a.m.

The perp, described by cops as a Hispanic man, took out a gun and told the victim in Spanish to give him all his money or he’d kill him. He then stole $40 from the victim before fleeing on foot westbound on 54th Street towards Third Avenue.

FAKE COP ROBS VICTIM

Cops say a 27-year-old Hispanic man was leaving a bar on Tuesday, February 2 when a perp posing as a cop robbed him right outside his home.

At approximately 3:20 a.m., the man was in front of his building door near Fifth Avenue and 51st Street, when he was approached by the perp who wearing a black hoodie and who told the man that he was a cop and wanted to see his ID.

The victim didn’t believe it and told the perp that he wasn’t a cop. The robber responded by punching him in the mouth, and stealing his wallet, which contained $150 and several credit cards, before fleeing eastbound on 51st Street.
