72nd Precinct Police Beat: “Spider-Man” collared for drug possession

STOOP SWIPE

A 44-year-old woman reported to police on Sunday, July 10 at 5:25 p.m. that three unknown perps put down stolen possessions from another woman in front of her house. The 30-year-old victim had put her possessions down on her stoop at 55th Street and 10th Avenue, then briefly turned away to watch her child, and when she returned, they were gone. The three male perps stole $40, two debit cards and a credit card, and the victim’s iPhone 5. The witness managed to snap photos of the perps in front of her house before they fled the scene.

STEALING STUDENT

The 36-year old female owner of JJ Gift Shop, 5702 Fifth Avenue, told police that a 17-year-old male student took $121.90 worth of bike supplies from the shop on Monday, July 11 at 5:50 p.m. The owner attempted to prevent the student from leaving the store with the stolen items, but the student pushed the owner and fled.

PURSE SNATCHER FLEES

Cops are looking for a man who hit a woman after he tried to snatch her purse on Monday, July 11. around 9 a.m., near 57th Street and Fourth Avenue. The police say that the man cut the strap of the victim’s purse and tried to pull it away from her. As she ran away, the man followed her and punched her several times on the head and in the eye, causing a large bump, swelling and pain.

NECKLACE ROBBER RUNS AWAY

Cops are looking for an unknown suspect who attempted to steal a necklace from around a woman’s neck on Monday, July 7. At the southeast corner of 48th Street and Fifth Avenue around 4:50 p.m., the suspect was able to grab the woman’s necklace and took it off her, leaving scratches around her neck. The victim was able to get her necklace back, but the perp fled.

SPIDER-MAN ARRESTED

Police arrested a 58-year-old man in possession of drugs in front of an apartment near 16th Street and Fourth Avenue on Tuesday, July 5. According to police, the man, who goes by the name of Spider, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. for possession of a controlled substance.

TACO TRUCK STAND-OFF

A 34-year-old man was punched in the face by a 26-year-old man while he was working inside of a taco truck between 54th Street and Fifth Avenue on Tuesday, July 5. The perp, who tried to enter the taco truck around 1:30 a.m. without permission punched the staff member in the face after he was told he was not allowed to enter the truck. When the staff member tried to push the man, he was struck in the face with the perp’s cellphone. The staff member was treated on site for bruising on the right side of their face.

CAR THIEF CAUGHT

Police received a report from a 60-year old male witness on Tuesday, July 5 at 1:43 p.m. that a 42-year old man had broken the front passenger side window of a 56-year-old woman’s parked 2004 Black Saturn VUE on the Northeast corner of McDonald and Greenwood Avenues. The perp stole the victim’s blue Nike backpack, clothing and a Garmin navigation system, totaling $330 worth of stolen possessions. Police apprehended the perp and found him in possession of burglary tools, marijuana and another controlled substance, and drug paraphernalia.
