72nd Precinct Police Beat: Victim struck in head with metal knuckles

Between Tuesday, April 26 and Monday, May 2, the 72nd Precinct received reports of three assaults, two robberies and one grand larceny. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.

HEAVY METAL

A 46-year-old Hispanic man was assaulted by three men inside a restaurant near Fourth Avenue and 39th Street on Monday, May 2 at around 4:30 a.m. The three perps, described by police as Hispanic males in their 20s, approached the victim and one of them punched him in the head with metal knuckles. While one of the assailants fled to an unknown location and remains at large, the other two were caught and arrested by police officers at 45th Street and Fourth Avenue. The victim was treated at NYU Lutheran Medical Center.

SHARP PAINS

Police say a 40-year-old woman was arrested by cops for assaulting a 31-year-old male on Tuesday, April 26 at around 7 a.m. The two had an altercation inside an apartment on Seventh Avenue and 53rd Street, according to cops, when the woman grabbed a sharp object and struck the man with it, causing cuts to his arm and stomach. The woman was arrested on assault charges. The victim refused medical attention.

NOT-SO-SWEET DREAMS

On Sunday, May 1 at approximately 7:25 p.m., a 49-year-old man witnessed a crook, described as a 49-year-old Hispanic man, steal about $460 dollars out of the jeans pocket of a 31-year-old man, who was sleeping on the floor on Fifth Avenue and 56th Street. Police later found and arrested the perp and recovered the cash.

NIGHT CLUB ROBBERY

A 19-year-old man was inside a night club at Eighth Avenue and 40th Street on Sunday, May 1 at around 3 a.m., when a robber, described by the victim as a 24-year-old Hispanic man, punched him in the face, stole his iPhone – worth about $700 – and fled the scene. No arrests have been made.

PAIN IN THE NECK

A 40-year-old woman was attacked and robbed by an unknown perp while walking near 48th Street and Fifth Avenue on Tuesday, April 26 at around 5 p.m. According to cops, the crook, described as a Hispanic man in his late teens, grabbed the victim’s neck and then ripped her yellow metal chain, worth approximately $800, off of it. No arrests have been made.

ALL IN THE FAMILY

A verbal dispute between a 28-year-old man and his 62-year-old mother got physical on Monday, May 2 inside an apartment near Greenwood Avenue and Sherman Street. At around 6:09 a.m., cops report, the son spit in in his mother’s face and repeatedly struck her in the face with a loaf of bread. He then picked up a metal model of a bridge and threw it at her arm.  Cops arrested the man on the scene.
