Annual Brooklyn Book Festival hits the borough

For the 11^th year in a row, a full week of events curated especially for book lovers hit the borough for some page-turning fun.

The Brooklyn Book Festival (BKBF), held from September 12 through September 18, promised Brooklyn bookworms a chance to partake in over 50 different events consisting of book launches, readings, screenings and other showcases, with special Bookends events preceding the children’s day, Saturday, September 17, and the book festival itself on Sunday, September 18.

“We [were] thrilled to launch the Brooklyn Book Festival with a week of programs highlighting the dynamism and creative talent of the festival’s literary partners and publishers,” said BKBF Bookends Committee Co-Chair Paul Morris. “We [had] an incredible lineup of over 50 literary-themed events in multiple boroughs, in clubs, bookstores, libraries, theaters and open spaces throughout the city. The programs range from an exciting kick-off dance party to film screenings to trivia nights to author appearances, and include programs by returning curators as well as many fresh new voices, all of whom contribute to the rich tapestry of New York City’s literary arts scene.”

Held at Brooklyn Borough Hall and surrounding bookstores and spaces, the festival featured authors seasoned and up-in-coming for a full and rich lineup of readings and encounters.

Participating authors included Patti Smith, Ann Patchett, Steve Buscemi, Rivka Galchen, Tanwi Nandini Islam, Mike Lupica, Susan Faludi, Walton Muyumba, Carl Hancock Rux, Olive Senior, R.L. Stine, Cecily von Ziegesar, Yaghoub Yadali and many more.

“Each day offer[ed] a plethora of unique literary events,” said Carolyn Greer, Festival co-producer and Bookends co-Chair, “As with a fantastic restaurant menu, it’s impossible to experience everything. Think of it as a week-long literary binge.”
