Bay Ridge Center gearing up for 22nd annual Walkathon

Get a smile and some walking shoes ready. The Bay Ridge Senior Center’s 22nd annual Walkathon benefiting its Meals-On-Wheels program is right around the corner.

Join the center (411 Ovington Avenueon Saturday, September 17 as supporters walk for the cause.

The event will begin at the center and follow a 1.9 mile course along Third Avenue to 83rd Street. The walk will then move up on 83rd Street to Fifth Avenue and will continue back to the center.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with kick-off ceremonies following at 10:30. The walk will begin promptly at 11 a.m. and prize and raffle winners will be announced at around 12:30 p.m. While the walk is going on, there will also be a flea market, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center.

All of the funds raised throughout the day will support the Bay Ridge Center’s Meals-On-Wheels program and other services supporting area seniors.

Participants can either become a sponsor or round up pledges and walk. Corporate teams are invited as are community and religious groups, Scouts and schools.  Certificates are available for community service.
