Bay Ridge Center’s food pantry sees donations from students

In the spirit of holiday giving, donations for the Bay Ridge Center’s food pantry were plentiful and coupled with bright, smiling faces on the morning of Tuesday, November 22.

After a morning service inside of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church (6935 Fourth Avenue), which included special songs form the Lutheran Elementary School choir, monetary  donations were collected for City Harvest and food donations were collected for the Bay Ridge Center’s food pantry.

“Each month our school chooses a different non-profit to support,” said Corinne King, director of development for Lutheran Elementary School. “So for the spirit of Thanksgiving, we wanted to focus on feeding the hungry. Any monetary gifts went to support City Harvest and the canned food was designated for the Bay Ridge food pantry.

“We have a sort of drive every month for something different,” she continued, “so for Thanksgiving time it seemed appropriate to focus on feeding the hungry.”

Students in grades pre-k through five were accompanied by their parents in putting canned goods and other food products on the altar and followed that up with an offering prayer.
