Bay Ridge Jewish Center hosts night of rock and roll

Elvis has not left the building.

On Saturday December 12, The Bay Ridge Jewish Center (405 81st Street) hosted a Night with Elvis Presley—well-known as the King of Rock and Roll.

Throughout the night, guests enjoyed a musical evening of karaoke fun featuring Elvis impersonator Cary Weiner, who has been playing the King since as early as nine years old.

DJ Bee Baa also provided a variety of music for dancing and singing, buffet style dinner was served and a cash bar was also part of the evening affairs.

“Everybody loves Elvis,” said past president of the Bay Ridge Jewish Center, Ruth Masyr as to why the King was chosen as the night’s theme. “They love the old songs, Elvis’ music runs in every generation.”

As for the atmosphere, Masyr said, “there is something really special about seeing someone you know or someone you are sitting next to get up and sing that bonds the audience.”

Karaoke, she said, illicited cheers from the crowd, all of the guests showing their support for one another.

“We discovered we had some talent in the audience,” she said.

The Bay Ridge Jewish Center, Masyr explained, has been focusing on hosting events for the entire community, always striving to entertain the entire community.

“We had a terrific turnout, about 65 people showed, there was a real party atmosphere,” she went on, noting that, although the center has never hosted an event of this nature, there is already a similar event in the works, to be hosted in March.
