Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade celebrates honorees with meet and greet

The Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade celebrated all things green at the Greenhouse Café on Sunday, January 25, during a meet and greet held to precede the March parade.

The group introduced the nine honorees for 2015’s parade at the cocktail reception, led by Colonel Joseph Davidson, the commander of Fort Hamilton, who is grand marshal.

“The men and women that we selected this year all do such charitable things within our community and within the Irish-American community,” said Parade Vice President Linda Gallagher. “They volunteer their time and they just do a lot for the community.”

The deputy marshals/honorees this year are Colleen Golden, Eileen Brett, Marie Moloney, Jenny Nielsen, Michael Butler, Tom McCarthy, Mick Dorgan and Mark Langton. Since the event acts as an “installation,” each honoree was presented with a sash and attendees were able to see and learn about them and the work that they do.

“For a nice Sunday afternoon there was a nice turnout,” added Gallagher. “We had music there, there was dancing and singing. Overall, we were very happy with this event.”
This year’s parade will be held on Sunday, March 22 preceded by a 9 a.m. Mass at St. Patrick’s Church on 95th Street and Fourth Avenue.
