Bay Ridge’s Fifth Avenue Festival springs back into action this Sunday

The ever-popular Fifth Avenue spring festival hits the streets of Bay Ridge on Sunday, June 4, running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and spanning 14 blocks. From rides for the kids to musical performances for all ages, the 23-years-young festival offers a panoply of activities and treats from 71st Street to 85th Street on what is predicted to be a sunny day and a cloudy afternoon.

The headquarters for the festival this year will be at 7408 Fifth Avenue, according to organizer Chip Cafiero, who provided this paper with a preview of the popular annual event.

This year, musical performances include Anaka at the Hideout, 8415 Fifth Avenue. Should anyone choose to step up to the mic, an annual karaoke contest will be set up at 76th Street for participants at the Bean Post, near an anti-bullying presentation. The main stage near Mussels and More will be hosting favorite local bands “Head Over Heels” and “Radio Daze”from 2 to 6 p.m. For those wanting to see a dance performance, belly dancers can be found at Le Sajj Restaurant at 82nd Street.

In addition, a family favorite, the Fire Department’s smokehouse will be making an appearance at 74th Street, and sponsors like WellCare and the Skin Institute of New York will have displays set up all of Sunday.

A central benefactor to the event, the Skin Institute will have flash tattoos, swag bags, raffles and a Dr. Look Good contest. Giveaways and entertainment are promised to those present at 78th and 79th Streets, with both organizations being central to putting the celebration together.

Beginning at 73rd Street, vendors can be found peppered throughout the festival, sharing the streets with outdoor dining areas like the one Bay Ridge Pizza will have ready at 77th Street and Gino’s outdoor dining at 74th Street.

A police command center as well as an area for BRAVO first aid will be at the intersection of Bay Ridge Parkway and Fifth Avenue.
