Brooklyn runs on Dunkin’!

Famous chain Dunkin’ Donuts has officially unveiled its first Next Generation Concept store in the borough in Bensonhurst at 6627 Bay Parkway.

A grand opening event, held on Friday, June 8, featured attendees such as New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo, Greg T from Z100’s Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, Borough President Eric Adams, and famous mascots Mr. Met and Dunkin’s Cuppy.

Attendees were able to check out the new digs, pose for photos with Nimmo and mascots, and of course, sample the store’s goods.

Vice President for New Products and Innovation for Dunkin Dan Wheeler was excited to show off just the 10th next generation restaurant in the country and the innovations that are part of the store experience.

“First, our stores are set up to be a beverage-first, on-the-go brand,” he said. “We’ve always been the place where guests come to get on their way and stay energized throughout the day. That’s the foundation of everything that we do here, the ability to have more convenience, to keep them fueled up, and to get in and out as fast as possible.”

The eatery features a dedicated mobile pickup area specifically for people that use Dunkin’s mobile app to order ahead so they don’t even have to get the line.

“They can just order in advance, go in and pick it up, and leave faster than ever before,” Wheeler said, adding that the way drinks are served will also provide a new experience. “We have a first-of-its-kind, eight-headed tap system where all of our cold beverages are dispensed, including all of our iced coffees, cold brew coffees and iced teas. Only here we have a product called Nitro which is a cold brew coffee that has been infused with nitrogen to develop a creamy, totally different coffee experience.”

The back of the store features a front counter bakery case where all the baked goods, including donuts, are front and center for guests, and “within an arm’s reach of their desire,” said Wheeler

There has also been a branding change. The sign in the front just says Dunkin’, removing donuts from the title.

However, Vice President for Global Franchising and Business Development Grant Benson said that no decision had been made to change the name permanently, and that the company would assess feedback.

“When you walk into here, you’re walking into the future of Dunkin’ Donuts and something we are proud of,” he said. “Where better to open this location than in Brooklyn, a borough that has seen so much positive change over the years.”

According to Wheeler, there are around 160 Dunkin Donuts in Brooklyn.

Nimmo was proud to be a part of the festivities

“Obviously, it looks very well put together,” the fan favorite Mets player said. “Management seems great. We always love the support we get from Mets fans. These guys are diehard and we are glad to help however way we can. “

“I think it looks great. It’s like a brand new development of a Dunkin’ Donuts,” added Greg T. “Everything is so new and fresh and cool.”

“I think this is a newer chic look,” said Adams. “Dunkin’ is modifying their stores and outreach to reach their customers as they continue to grow. Brooklyn likes it different, and that’s what they’re doing.”

After a period of time in which the store was closed for renovation, customers also enjoyed the experience.

“I live a few blocks away and I think it’s fantastic,” said Eddie Badalucca. “The counter design is great and the taps look great.”

“It looks very good,” added Marcy Freedman. “We come here all the time and when I saw it closed, I thought they closed down. Then I read the sign and saw they were redoing it.”

During the ceremony, Dunkin’ Donuts presented a $50,000 check to the USO of Metropolitan New York.
