The Breezy Point Star: 12-year-old Dyker student uses her talents to give back

She’s got a lot of heart.

Twelve-year-old Anne Hart, who attends I.S. 187 The Christa McAuliffe School, is a girl who not only has several talents, dreams and aspirations, but also uses them to give back to her community.

Only in the seventh grade, Hart has already developed passions for acting, law, swimming, and most importantly, helping the less fortunate. She’s already accomplished so much and she’s just begun.

Can you talk about some of the community service that you do to help others?

I’m very active in my school and I am a part of the Kiwanis Club and we always give back to the community. For example, every Halloween we have this event called Trick or Treat for Unicef, during which we collect change and that money goes to people in need. This is my second year doing it.

I also perform community theater which helps and tries to entertain the community. We practice and we put on shows for the public. I’ve been doing [that] since I was nine.

With my school we performed at nursing homes. I love performing and seeing how everyone likes my performance.

How does it feel for you to give back?

It feels really awesome because I know that I’m making a difference in someone’s life. I try to put smiles on people’s faces. I do this with my friends. It feels great and my friends support me and we have a really good time.

What is your favorite subject and why?

I like ELA and law. I like law because I like to get my point across a lot of the time and I want to be a lawyer when I grow up. I love ELA because of the discussions we have and we talk about the connections between the books and real world and it’s real fun.

I just started liking it around the fifth grade. I liked learning about history and the Supreme Court and I also would want to be an actress when I grow up so that’s been another one of my lifelong dreams. I’ve always wanted to act.

I did the world premiere of “The Most Miserable Christmas Tree” at Narrows Community Theater and I was one of the supporting leads so to be able to start and being able to originate that role was one of my favorite times. It’s fun to do because of everyone around you and I like the idea of making up your own character and you can be whoever you want to be.

Is there anyone you really admire?

My role model would be Lin-Manuel Miranda. he wrote “In The Heights” and “Hamilton” and he’s a really great artist and I hope to one day become as good as him.
