Brooklyn Education: CEC 21 congratulates Anthony Mungioli

On January 16, Community Education Council District 21 welcomed Anthony Mungioli back to District 21 as the new principal of P.S. 121 Nelson A. Rockefeller, a Pre-K – 5 school.

Mr. Mungioli previously taught at P.S. 95 The Gravesend,a District 21 school, before becoming an assistant principal at The SEEALL Academy, a District 20 K – 8 school. District 21 is proud to have Mr. Mungioli back in his new capacity. * * *

On January 9, Xaverian High School hosted the 52nd Annual Induction Ceremony of the Brother Hilary Chapter of the National Honor Society. Membership to the NHS was conferred upon 114 exceptional students from the senior, junior and sophomore classes.

The ceremony began with a welcome address by Principal Deacon Kevin McCormack and an opening prayer by Reverend Michael Gribbon, Xaverian’s chaplain.

The NHS Class Representatives, Anthony Salerno ’13, Patrick Coen ’14 and Harrison Jamin ’13, then participated in a candle-lighting ceremony.

Faculty member Mr. Vincent Raimondo ’97 served as the keynote speaker during the Rite of Induction following the Conferral of Membership and recitation of the National Honor Society Pledge by all inductees.

Congratulations to all the members of the Brother Hilary Chapter of the National Honor Society at Xaverian!

Saint Saviour High School recently accepted eighth graders into its graduating class of 2017, and a special group of these young women were honored at a scholarship dinner held on January 24 at the school. In 2017, Saint Saviour High School will also celebrate its 100th anniversary of educating young women to be leaders.

The eighth graders and their families met with various faculty members and current students and their parents to learn more about Saint Saviour High School.

On January 20 at the Colgate Women’s Games at Pratt Institute, Bishop Kearney High School’s Jackie Gallagher shattered Kearney’s 1500m freshman record with a time of 5:22.

Gallagher’s astounding run broke the 10-year-old former record by 48 seconds. Jackie’s sister, Tessy, ran a time of 2:38 in the 800m, missing the freshman school record by only one second.Senior Natalie Juliano ran a personal best of 5:35 in the 1500m.

Bishop Kearney High School’s Speech Team earned a second place finish on January 12 at the Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice.Individual members of the team were also successful.

Melissa Licciardello and Margaret Iuni took first place in Duo Interpretation, qualifying for the state competition; Jennifer Kuhn and Lorena Lipe placed second in Public Forum; Alanna McAuliffe finished fourth in Oral Interpretation; Mandy Chin earned fifth place in Original Oratory; and Christina Baumann finished sixth and Amy Blaise finished seventh in Declamation.
