PHOTOS: Brooklyn families bond with police at 62nd Precinct Night Out

As precincts around the nation gathered for the 33rd annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, celebrating and promoting relationships between the police and the people, the 62nd Precinct turned Bath Avenue and Bay 22nd Street into a big block party, providing music, games, activities and food for residents of Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

“The concept of National Night Out is to bring the community hand-in-hand with the Police Department,” said Captain Anthony Sanseverino, commanding officer of the 62nd Precinct. “This year I almost feel like we’re celebrating, because we already have such a close relationship with this community.”

“Night Out is really like a community block party,” said Louis Trimboli, president of the 62nd Precinct Community Council. “We invite everyone in the community so that they can meet the cops in a friendly and fun environment.”

Area families agree that the annual event strengthens their relationship with those in uniform.

“My kids love seeing the police officers, but sometimes they can be intimidating,” said one local mom. “But it is events like this that really helps people like us feel closer to our police.”
