City Harvest and Apple Bank team up to “Feed Our Kids”

Starting Mother’s Day, Brooklynites can give back to kids in need.

All 51 Apple Bank branches in the five boroughs, including 17 in Brooklyn, are teaming up with community partner City Harvest for the annual “Feed Our Kids” benefit, a food drive that will begin on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10 and will conclude on Father’s Day, which is on Sunday, June 21.

“Apple Bank is proud to be a community partner of this wonderful program sponsored by City Harvest that provides such needed food and nutrition to so many families throughout New York City,” said Executive Vice President of Apple’s Consumer Banking Division, James Matera. “The Feed Our Kids food drive is truly a community-driven effort that allows us to open our doors to many neighborhood residents who wish to participate, along with our employees. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”

The Senior Manager of Food Sourcing for City Harvest, Jeanne Traugot also stressed the significance of the program.

“Nearly one in four children in New York City faces hunger, and the Feed Our Kids food drive helps our network of soup kitchens and food pantries meet the increased demand for food over the summer months when access to school meals becomes limited,” she said. “We appreciate Apple Bank’s support which helps ensure that children and their families have enough food this summer.”

Last year’s food drive was considered a success as the fundraiser collected over 250,000 pounds of food, allowing City Harvest to feed thousands of families around the boroughs.

Apple Bank has 17 Brooklyn branches. They include a Bay Ridge location, 7415 Fifth Avenue; two Bensonhurst branches, 6701 18th Avenue and 1973 86th Street; and a Coney Island branch, 486 Neptune Avenue.
