Coney Island opening day celebration postponed due to impending snowstorm

So much for welcoming spring at Coney Island.

Due to a snowstorm that could dump up to six inches of snow on Brooklyn this weekend, the Alliance for Coney Island has announced that the opening day ceremonies for the amusement parks has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 26.

The original opening day celebration was slated to be held on Sunday, March 20.

The same special events will take place on the new date, including the tradition of the “Blessing of the Rides” at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by park owners Dennis and Steve Vourderis, and the celebration of the 96th anniversary of the Wonder Wheel by allowing the first 96 guests in line to ride the historic ride for free.

The Annual Egg Cream Christening of the newly refurbished Coney Island Cyclone and the reopening of Luna Park for the season will also take place.
