Cops search for suspect attempting to rob Bensonhurst sporting goods store

Police are searching for a suspect involved in an attempted robbery at a sporting goods store in Bensonhurst.

According to cops, on Wednesday, June 28, at around 10:30 a.m., the suspect entered DF Brothers Sports Center, 7919 New Utrecht Avenue, and asked to look at a gun. When the victim, a 60-year-old man who is an employee of the store, asked for a permit, the perp pepper-sprayed him. He then took out a sledgehammer and smashed the display case. The victim then took out a weapon before the suspect fled the location in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic in his mid-20s, approximately 5’10” tall and 170 pounds.
