Crooks bilk elderly woman of $6,000 in Dyker

Cops are hunting for a pair of women who they say bilked an 88-year-old woman out of thousands of dollars near 74th Street and 13th Avenue, within the 68th Precinct, on Tuesday, June 21, at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The NYPD says that one of the two suspects approached the victim and pretended to have found approximately $100,000 in cash on the street. The suspect proceeded to explain to the victim that she needed her help in returning the money to a bank.

The second suspect then drove the two women to a bank, which the first suspect entered on her own. Upon exiting the bank, the suspect explained to the victim that a bank representative had stated that they could keep the money if they paid taxes on it. The first suspect then convinced the victim to give the suspects $6,000 from her bank account to pay the taxes in exchange for half of the cash.

Once the victim handed over the $6,000, she was directed by the suspects to speak to representative inside the bank who would finalize the transaction. When the victim went inside and requested to speak with the representative, she was told that there was no such person. When she left the bank, the victim discovered that the suspects had fled.

The first suspect is a black or Hispanic woman, 40 to 50 years old, 5’9” to 5’10” with gray hair and glasses. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt and black pants.

The second suspect is a white woman, 40 to 50 years old, with glasses. She was last seen wearing a dark colored dress and carrying a light-colored purse.
