Dyker Heights and Park Slope churches hold blessing of animals

An annual blessing, done in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi – whose name is synonymous with patronage of animals and the natural environment – was given to Brooklyn pets at two different houses of worship this month.

On Saturday, October 8, the Reverend Monsignor Thomas Caserta, pastor at the Shrine Church of St. Bernadette (8201 13th Avenue) in Dyker Heights, blessed several beloved pets.

Father Orlando Ruiz, pastor at Our Lady of Peace Church (522 Carroll Street) in Park Slope gave blessings to furry friends on Sunday, October 2.

Each year, pet blessings such as these take place throughout the borough, giving everyone’s furry friends a chance to have their day in the spotlight.
