An 89-year-old woman died after a fire broke out at 546 77th Street around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1.
According to police, upon arrival to the two-story, private dwelling building, firefighters discovered the woman “unconscious” and “unresponsive” after extinguishing the fire. The female, identified at Kathryn Johnson, was taken to Lutheran Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The investigation is currently ongoing but according to the FDNY, the fire appeared to have occurred on the second floor and firefighters had it under control at approximately 8:36 a.m.
