Footage released of suspect in L&B co-owner’s death

Surveillance footage of a man, wanted for questioning in the fatal shooting of L&B Spumoni Gardens co-owner Louis Barbati, has been released by the NYPD.

The footage shows a potential suspect – dressed in a black hoodie, dark colored shorts and black sneakers – walking within the vicinity of Barbati’s 76th Street and 12th Avenue home shortly before the fatal shooting which took place just past 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 30.

According to police, the 61-year-old father of two sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and was found outside of the house while his wife and sons were inside. EMS responded and pronounced Barbati dead at the scene.

While police search for the gunman, reports claiming that the incident might have been a “robbery gone wrong” are surfacing. Sources say when police found Barbati, he had his jewelry on and $10,000 in cash on him.

While the Dyker Heights community (which Barbati called home) and the Bensonhurst and Gravesend communities (where the famed pizzeria stands) are mourning the loss of the beloved businessman, the Barbati family has been adamant about keeping the press at bay through the grieving process.

The well-known eatery has been a community staple since 1939. Its iconic thick, Sicilian slices have been feeding Brooklyn families for generations and was even featured on the popular Travel Channel program “Man v. Food.”
