With four months to go till Primary Day, Ridge City Council candidates begin making their pitch

Politics with a side of guacamole.

South Brooklyn Progressive Resistance kicked off a series of candidates nights focusing on the soon-to-be-vacant seat in the 43rd Council District, representing Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst, at the Ridge’s Lobo Loco on Tuesday, April 18, with one of the four declared Democratic candidates for the post, the Reverend Khader El-Yateem.

On successive Tuesday nights, through May 9, the group will present the other Democrats who would like to replace outgoing Councilmember Vincent Gentile, a Democrat, who cannot run for the position again because of term limits.

Justin Brannan will present to the group on Tuesday, April 25; Kevin Peter Carroll will be the speaker on Tuesday, May 2; and Nancy Tong will have her opportunity to make a case for her candidacy on Tuesday, May 9 at the restaurant, 86th Street and Third Avenue, from 7 through 8:20 p.m.

The three declared Republican candidates for the seat, Bob Capano, Liam McCabe and John Quaglione, will participate in a forum scheduled for Thursday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Bay Ridge Manor, 476 76th Street.

That forum is sponsored by the Brooklyn GOP Executive Committee, Brooklyn GOP Chair Ted Ghorra, Brooklyn GOP Vice Chair Brian Doherty and the Brooklyn Teen Republican Club. RSVPs for the GOP forum should be sent to batya@bkteengop.com.
