Generally Speaking: HeartShare CEO receives Brotherhood Award

Civic and business leader William Guarinello was tapped by the Parent Teacher Association of Public School 104, located at Fifth Avenue and 91st Street, as its recipient of the 2013 International Brotherhood Tea Award.

Guarinello, who in addition to being the president and CEO of HeartShare, is the chair of Community Board 11 and the Fort Hamilton Citizens Action Committee, received the honor in the school auditorium on Valentine’s Day.

Angela DiyarzaPenny Merron gave the opening welcome. She was then joined by Principal Marie DiBella

Brief skits on brotherhood and friendship were performed by eighth grade students under the direction of teachers Paul Wiley and Robert Rossicone. The school continues to maintain one of the sharpest middle school color guards in the city, and its performance at this year’s event was no exception.

Other members of the PTA include President Donna Periera John; Recording Secretary Sophia Koutouzis and Corresponding Secretary Jade Lacroix.

Also in attendance were key education officials led by District Schools Superintendent Karina Costentino and Community Education Council 20 President Laurie Windsor.

This significant brotherhood recognition of a member of the community is not your typical PTA citation or honor. It goes way back in years when it was original sponsored by the School’s Mothers’ Club.
