Generally Speaking: Schools Chancellor Walcott to hold town hall here

The Community Education Council for District 20 schools is hosting a town hall for Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott on Thursday, May 2, at Public School 204, 8101 15th Avenue, at 6 p.m.

One of the thorny issues to surely come up is the council’s recent unanimous resolution calling for the protection of confidential student data from a commercial database to be maintained by a firm called inBloom, Inc.

There was a nice turnout for the fund-raising cocktail party hosted by the 64th A.D. Democratic Leader Kevin Peter Carroll and 46th A.D. Leader Dilia Schack for likely next Brooklyn borough president, State Senator Eric Adams.

Adams represents roughly the same district that current Borough President Marty Markowitz represented when he was in the New York State Senate.

Although, primarily a Democratic function, the event drew Republicans and Conservatives as well. Among the attendees was Justin BrannanIlene SaccoSteve Maresca; Assemblymember Alec Brook-Krasny; District Leader Mark Davidovich; former Senate candidate Andrew Gounardes; Cody McCone; Tobias Russo; Kate Cucco; Linda Lupia and Linda Orlando.

We mentioned here a few editions ago about an up-and-coming project to rebuild the Bay Ridge Avenue bridge, which on top carries traffic for the Belt Parkway and below serves as a tunnel and entrance way to the American Veterans Memorial Pier (also known as the 69th Street Pier).

On April 1, the State Department of Transportation awarded a contract to the Restani Construction Corp. of Astoria, Queens. Actual construction at the site won’t get underway until August, and then we were further advised the project will take about 24 months to complete.
