Going green for a good cause

The New Utrecht Reformed Church parish house was packed to the rafters on Saturday, March 16 for the 34th annual Boy Scout Troop 20/Pack 20 St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser dinner.

About 100 local merchants donated baskets of goods that were raffled off as revelers feasted on corned beef and cabbage, courtesy of Meats Supreme. Families also helped put together the elaborate baskets.

This particular Boy and Cub Scout group has been meeting at the historic church for the past 103 years.

“It keeps the program going,” said Cubmaster Elaine Delaney, adding that families from P.S. 205 and P.S. 186 were also present. “There are many returning families here. Everyone likes to come out and have a good time.”

Scoutmaster Frank Maddalena said that he and Delaney have been putting on the festive fundraiser together for the past 15 years. “It just keeps growing,” he said.
