Harris trumps Regina-Potter, snags vacant 46th A.D. seat

Coney Island resident and Democratic candidate Pamela Harris has won the race for the vacant 46th Assembly District seat.

As of 11:30 p.m., Harris had trumped Republican opponent Lucretia Regina-Potter with over 60 percent of the vote and 90 percent of precincts reporting.

Her team announced the victory late Tuesday evening from the MCU Park Gallery, located at 1904 Surf Avenue.

“I really want to say, to all of you, thank you so much for being by my side through thick and thin,” said an overjoyed Harris. “I will continue to do what I’ve been doing. I am going to continue to do what’s right for our district, not just our community — for our district.”

Over in Bensonhurst, Regina-Potter also thanked her supporters.

“We put up a good fight,” she said from her headquarters. “I enjoy the campaign. We made it a contested race for the first time ever and it was one of the best campaigns I’ve ever seen in Brooklyn.”

Prior to her win, Harris — a retired corrections officer who founded the not-for-profit Coney Island Generation Gap and stepped up her activism in the wake of Superstorm Sandy — had the backing of numerous local officials, including Congressmembers Jerrold Nadler and Hakeem Jeffries, Borough President Eric Adams, State Senator Diane Savino, Assemblymember William Colton and City Councilmembers Mark Treyger and David Greenfield.

The special election came on the heels of former Assemblymember Alec Brook-Krasny’s resignation in June.

The 46th A.D. encompasses portions of Bay RIdge, Dyker Heights, Bath Beach, Coney Island, Brighton Beach and Seagate.
