Home Reporter publishers to be honored by Third Avenue Merchants

Hats off to our publishers.

Victoria and Joshua Schneps, co-publishers of The Home Reporter and The Brooklyn Spectator will be honored by the Merchants of Third Avenue as the recipients of the business group’s 2014 Pioneer Civic Service Awards on Monday, October 27 at a cocktail reception at the Bay Ridge Manor, 476 76th Street.

In line with this year’s theme, “Our Newspapers Define Our Very Special Bay Ridge,” Victoria and Joshua Schneps are no strangers to print and – in today’s society — its transition to the web. The mother-son duo spearheads Schneps Communications which was founded by Victoria in her Bayside living room in 1985.

“I am proud to serve the Bay Ridge Third Avenue Merchants through our powerful newspapers,” said Vicki. “No community is better than Bay Ridge and I appreciate this recognition and honor.”

“We are thrilled to be recognized by the Third Avenue Merchants Association,” said Joshua. “The Pioneers Awards have a long history of recognizing community leaders and we are proud to be a part of this event with other great honorees.”

Today, Schneps Communications publishes over 17 newspapers and magazines in Queens and Brooklyn including The Home Reporter and The Brooklyn Spectator, The Queens Courier, El Correo, and monthly publications including Queens Business, Long Island City Courier, North Shore Towers Courier, LeHavre Courier and Aspire.

“Vicki and I feel privileged to lead The Brooklyn Spectator and Home Reporter that are the most trusted local news sources in Brooklyn,” Josh went on. “We have a fantastic team around us that make it all possible.”

The honorees were announced at the Merchants’ September 22 meeting, which took place at Omonia Café, 7612 Third Avenue, and drew a standing-room-only crowd.

The Third Avenue Merchants Association – fresh off another successful Third Avenue Festival weekend – has been giving out Pioneer Awards for 20 years to those individuals who have worked hard to make a name for themselves in business and who have done their part to promote the Bay Ridge’s busy Third Avenue strip.

Fellow award recipients are Mike Esposito and Ted Nugent of CEBU; Kimberly Fasano, community activist and advocate for Reaching Out Community Services; Fran Vella-Marrone, community activist and president of the Dyker Heights Civic Association; Rawia and Jumana Bishara of Tanoreen Restaurant; Dozier Hasty, publisher of The Brooklyn Daily Eagle; and Dilia Schack, former Ragamuffin president.
