Kings Plaza provides 2,000 backpacks for children in need

With the hustle and bustle of the school year picking up once again, Kings Plaza Shopping Center, Avenue U and Flatbush Avenue, gave back to the community in the most appropriate way possible—a backpack giveaway.

On Monday, August 8, Kings Plaza provided over 2,000 school bags, jam-packed with back-to-school essentials, to local elected officials for borough-wide distribution to help economically disadvantaged students get prepared for the upcoming academic year.

“Kings Plaza is proud to be an active and involved community partner and each year we look forward to our backpack giveaway,” said Area Senior Marketing Manager Dawn Simon. “In partnership with our local officials, we were able to donate 2,000 supply-filled backpacks to children in need in time for the back to school season. Kings Plaza is so much more than a shopping center; we truly are a place for the community to come together and make a difference in Brooklyn.”

“No child should be concerned about clothes and school supplies on the first day of school, especially not in the richest city in the greatest nation in the world.” said Borough President Eric Adams. “Kings Plaza Shopping Center has demonstrated its heart and commitment to corporate citizenship by collecting and distributing backpacks for children in need, allowing them to return to school with confidence and in style. As the community of One Brooklyn, we have a responsibility to support every student with the resources to succeed in school and in their careers.
