A Look Back: A Bay Ridge church in the Vietnam War era

St. John’s Episcopal Church on Fort Hamilton Parkway has been in the spotlight in recent days, thanks to two plaques on the property that commemorated Confederate General Robert E. Lee that were taken down, after their presence was protested, on Wednesday, August 16. In this photo mashup, a current picture of the sanctuary, closed since 2015,  is combined with one from the files of this newspaper taken during the Vietnam War era, when protesters stood outside the church — then a hive of activity — to express their opposition to American involvement in that conflict.
