Santa embarks on his first-ever Ragamuffin Parade.

Among the traditions started in 1967, the year of the first full-fledged Ragamuffin Parade, was the inclusion of Santa in the lineup. In this photo from the files of this newspaper, the Right Jolly Old Elf is seen atop a firetruck, his favorite perch for surveying the crowds in attendance at the event. Here, he’s followed by a steady stream of parade participants, while excited onlookers watched from the sidelines.
