Maimonides honors Summer Youth Program participants

The next generation of medical professionals is already making strides with a record-breaking summer.

Brooklyn’s Maimonides Medical Center held a recognition ceremony on Wednesday, August 10, to honor the 390 participants and the 70,000 hours of service they contributed over the season—an all-time high for the program.

The youthful participants received an authentic hospital experience during their time at Maimonides, according to the medical center. They went above and beyond in assisting the staff with clerical and clinical tasks, foreign language interpretation, support services and recreational activities for patients.

The recognition ceremony began at 9:30 a.m., in the Schreiber Auditorium on the second floor of the Eisenstadt Administration Building, with welcoming words from Maimonides President and CEO Ken Gibbs and Douglas Jablon, Maimonides senior vice president.

“The contributions made by our Summer Youth Program participants have a tremendous impact on everyone,” said Gibbs, while giving the opening remarks. “Students not only gain valuable work experience for their own benefit, but also make a meaningful difference in the lives of the patients and families we serve.”

Guest speakers, including Borough President Eric Adams, reiterated the event’s theme — “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work,” as they applauded participants for their dedication and encouraged them to continue pursuing their goals and making a difference. A musical performance by the NYPD Police Band and a video presentation showcasing their outstanding efforts followed the ceremony.
