A man was arrested for assaulting a 43-year-old woman with a meat cleaver inside of her Sunset Park apartment last week, according to police.

According to police, the incident occurred at an apartment near Seventh Avenue and 46th Street on Tuesday, December 13 at around 8 p.m.

Cops say that while the victim was making dinner, the defendant — a 45-year-old man — kicked open the door to her apartment and grabbed her by the neck with one hand, causing her to stop breathing and lose consciousness. After allegedly slapping her in the face, the man then grabbed the meat cleaver and struck her with the flat side on the top of her head and threatened to kill her and her son.

Furthermore, cops say the man then allegedly told the woman that he would go back to China to kill her family. While she was trying to call the police, the man threw the phone to the floor.

Cops arrived shortly after and arrested the man.

The victim sustained injuries to her neck and face.
