NIA Family Day is a success

Families gathered at Shore Road Park on Saturday, June 18, for the Second Annual Family Fun Day, hosted by NIA Community Services and Councilmember Vincent Gentile.

The family day of fun included a rock climbing wall, arts and crafts, and face painting for the children. When dusk fell, parents and their children were able to set down some blankets and bring their lawn chairs to watch “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.”

Rosa Casella, executive director of NIA Community Services ,was thrilled to be hosting the shared event for a second year in a row.

“We had a beautiful day, and we were lucky to have so many organizations come out to support us to make this happen,” said Casella.

The free event also included free ice cream for the children, and free books on bullying and healthy living were given to families. Casella enjoyed seeing families and the entire Bay Ridge community come together to enjoy the summer nights together.

“The whole community seems unified,” said Casella.

Casella promises there will be more family fun days throughout the summer and through October. The next family fun day event is set for July 16 at Bensonhurst Park, where the movie “Inside Out” will be screened.
