Around 150 flappers and gents gathered to celebrate NIA Community Services Network in its ninth annual auction fundraiser. Themed to the roaring ‘20s, the fundraiser was held at Rex Manor, 1100 60th Street.
“We love doing this event because it brings out the community … for a festival event that’s not just like any other we run,” said Annette Scaduto, NIA’s director of program operations.
NIA is a multi-service community organization that was founded in Brooklyn in 1981. While it is involved with senior centers and community events, its main focus is its after school and summer programs for children. The organization’s programs service around 5,000 children during the school year across 30 sites, and a little less than that in the summer, said Scaduto.
“Our programs encourage exploration and learning through the arts and sciences, teaching new skills, physical education, and fostering positive youth development and healthy lifestyle choices. We are working today to help develop our leaders of tomorrow!” reads NIA’s website.
Scaduto described the event as more casual than some of the organization’s others, and was happy that the fundraiser was a fun event for the community to enjoy.
