Parkville Baseball pays tribute to players with awards ceremony

Parkville Baseball finished yet another successful season with an awards ceremony for its young players.

Five teams in three different age brackets were present to receive trophies for participation, along with a coach’s award, MVP award and golden glove award.

Among the special awards, Christian Mendez was the recipient of the John Gallo Memorial Award.

“Every child who participates gets a trophy, but each team is awarded three extra trophies,” explained Parkville Youth Organization Assistant Treasurer Robert Cavaliere. “You’ve got some people out there who say that’s ridiculous, that everyone gets a trophy by signing up. This trophy means more than a reflection of their skills; it shows the kids that people will reward them for doing good.”

The peewees (ages 4-6), junior minors (ages 7-8), and majors (ages 11-12) enjoyed an eventful season that ended the second week of July. However, according to Cavaliere, some age brackets continue playing through August, with football camp beginning on the heels of the extended baseball season’s conclusion.

“Parkville has an open door policy,” he explained. “A lot of children aren’t playing ball anymore and we just hope we can get them to spend a couple hours in the park and enjoy themselves. It’s all about fun.”
