Caribbean Heritage Month was almost halfway through when the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic (NTAC), featuring guests clad in white, honored New York City non-profits for the 10th consecutive year at Giando on the Water in Williamsburg on Tuesday, June 13.

“The mission of the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic is to serve the needs of philanthropic individuals and organizations in their efforts to develop support and maintain effective community-based and faith-based programs,” said NTAC President Valerie Oliver-Durrah, “We also serve non-profits wishing to improve programs and organizational capacity for addressing the needs of low-income and service-starved neighborhoods. We provide consultation, strategic direction and management, technical assistance and forums for increasing substantive outcomes in all these areas of human and financial investment.”

The gala honored Patrick “Johnny” Gomes as the Caribbean Man of the Year. The Caribbean Woman of the Year was the current President of the Carlos Lezama Archives Cultural Museum, Yolanda Lezama-Clarke, formerly president of the West Indian American Day Parade Committee.

The Honorable Shirley Chisholm’s Lifetime Legacy Award went to William Howard, and President Saideh Browne accepted the award for running the nonprofit organization of the year, the National Council of Women of the United States.

Among the organizations receiving financial assistance from NTAC this year are three Brooklyn groups — the John StepToe Foundation, the Judah International Center and the Carlos Lezama Archives Cultural Museum.
