Police seek armed suspect in Bensonhurst potentially behind multiple robberies

The NYPD has released photos of a perp, they say, flashed a gun at two different taxi drivers and took their money on Tuesday, July 12 in Bensonhurst.

According to police, the perp approached the first victim, a 34-year-old taxi driver, at around 2:45 a.m. in front of 1966 86th Street. The perp got in the 34-year-old’s cab and posed as a customer, but walked away when the driver told him he was off-duty. The perp later approached the 34-year-old again when he stepped out of the cab, pulled out a handgun, and robbed him of $100 before fleeing.

At around 4:15 a.m. that same morning, the perp got in a 49-year-old’s cab in front of 2366 86th Street and asked to be taken to 81st Street and 21st Avenue. When they pulled up in front of the location, the suspect pulled out a gun again and demanded the man hand over money. The perp then hit the driver in the face with the gun and made off with approximately $450 in cash. The victim suffered a broken nose and was removed to an area hospital.

The alleged perp is described by police as a Hispanic male who frequents the area often. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and black sweatpants. In the first incident the suspect was wearing a red bandanna across his face.

According to Captain Anthony Sanseverino, the 62nd Precinct’s commanding officer, the perp is wanted for questioning in at least one other recent robbery.

These reports come on the heels of another firearm-involved incident in Bensonhurst that left a suspect dead after he pointed a revolver at a uniformed sergeant on Monday, July 11 during a burglary.

Officers responded to the burglary, that took place at a three-story home on 78th Street between Bay Parkway and Stillwell Avenue, when the suspect – later identified as a 39-year-old black man – attempted to flee via the fire escape, jumped over a fence on Stillwell Avenue and pointed the revolver at the sergeant, who then fired at the suspect along with another officer.

Anyone with information in regards to the alleged perp or any three of the mentioned robberies can call Detective Tracy Travis at 212-860-1671 or Detective Borough Manhattan South at 212-477-7447.
