Rain to blame for N train pain

The record-breaking rains of August 14 shut down N train serviceacross portions of southwestern Brooklyn for 11 hours, according tothe MTA. R service was also interrupted for an hour, between 8:20and 9:20 a.m.

We had a signal problem at 36th Street and then when we gotthat resolved, there were flooding issues at the 86th Streetstation, said MTA spokesperson Deirdre Parker.

The N train service interruption, which began at 4 a.m., was theworst rain delay Parker says she’s seen in a decade, as the floodwaters rose above the train tracks.

The water was coming up over the third rail, she said.Obviously, we can’t run trains when there’s water on the thirdrail.

Other than some minor delays, Parker says no issues werereported with Brooklyn buses.
