Rockin’ 4 Wreaths to raise funds to honor soldiers

The wreaths are coming out early this year to honor fallen soldiers.

This upcoming Friday, October 23, Rockin’ 4 Wreaths — A Fundraiser for National Wreaths Across America Day will be back in action. Viking Love NYC is supporting Wreaths Across America to honor veterans and you can too.

The goal of this event is to raise enough money to place wreaths upon each of the graves of the soldiers buried at Cypress Hills National Cemetery as a symbol of remembrance.

The Leif Bar, 6725 Fifth Avenue, will be hosting Friday’s fundraiser from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. with the promise of a night filled with music, raffles and giveaways.

Viking Love NYC Organizer Jason McDermott explains this is the third year the group has participated in the event as part of National Wreaths Across America Day.

“Last year, we were able to supply 1,000 wreaths. This year, we are hoping to triple that,” McDermott said. He also notes, “Cypress Hills National Cemetery here in Brooklyn has over 18,000 soldiers dating as far back as the Civil War. It’s a tough task to fill our goal.” The help of the community is needed in order to match the goal intended.

National Wreaths Across America Day will take place on Saturday December 12, and supporters of Viking Love’s efforts will be at the cemetery to lay the wreaths.
