Schools chancellor debuts new IDNYC pop-up at Fort Hamilton High School

Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña stopped by a Bay Ridge high school on Wednesday, September 28 to stress the importance of the city’s IDNYC program, and mark a new pop-up enrollment center for the card.

Fariña was joined by Commissioner Nisha Agarwal of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs at Fort Hamilton High School, where students — and ultimately, teens across the city — are now being encouraged to sign up for their IDNYC cards.

Communities all over the five boroughs are reaping the benefits of IDNYC — the city’s newest municipal identification program open to all New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status.

Including benefits like free one-year memberships to 40 cultural institutions across the city, health and fitness discounts and even banking benefits, the IDNYC card already boasts 730,000 enrollees in its first year alone, making it the country’s largest municipal ID program—a program that has become even more accessible to the public thanks to pop-up enrollment sites like this one.

The Fort Hamilton pop-up center is only open to Fort Hamilton High School’s 4,700 students and over 400 staff. All New Yorkers can make appointments at more than 24 enrollment centers across the Boroughs by calling 311 and saying “IDNYC” or by visiting nyc.gov/IDNYC.
