STAR OF BROOKLYN: Louis Crispiano

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Louis Crispiano is the sergeant at arms of the 62^nd Precinct Community Council; has been a member of Community Board 11 for about 15 years, with certificates for perfect attendance; has been a notary public for 25 years; is a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Fort Hamilton Senior Center and VFW Post 1204; was a volunteer at the VA Medical Center for 17 years in the podiatry department; was a certified instructor for AARP defensive driving courses; and recently resigned as a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.

“I enjoy being with people and helping people,” Crispiano said. “I think I do my jobs well. It’s satisfying. I have tons of friends from all walks of life.”

A LIFETIME OF SERVICE: Growing up in Borough Park, 81-year-old Crispiano is a graduate of St. John’s Prep and St. John’s University, where he was in the same graduating class as former Governor Mario Cuomo and earned a BA in Latin American studies. He served in the Army during the Korean War and is now a retired New York State civil servant.

“I lived in Panama for a while when I was in the private sector,” he recalled. “I spent 20 years in the state service as a court officer and court analyst. I traveled the world, all over the Orient. I have been to Japan and Korea many, many times.”

Crispiano also speaks Spanish, Italian and “a bit of many other languages,” including Japanese.

PERSONAL LIFE: Crispiano, who has lived in Bensonhurst for over 30 years, has two sons: one residing in Florida and the other in Staten Island. Ann, his wife of 45 years, died 12 years ago from lupus, a “horrible” disease.

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT: Crispiano is most proud of his “complete involvement in so many walks of life.” His involvement put him on a first-name basis with many of his elected officials and local leaders. “I am very satisfied with what I have accomplished and think I am well liked,” he noted.
