A slice of Bay Ridge history is up for sale.
The on-screen home of fictional working-class heartthrob Tony Manero – played by John Travolta in the 1977 classic Saturday Night Fever – is up for grabs, according to a listing by southern Brooklyn realty group Ben Bay.
The famous property has hit the market for a whopping $2.498 million. While mostly the exterior of the home, built in the 1920s, was granted screen-time, its interior – renovated in 2005 to include cherry wood floors, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances – also made a few cameos in the film, which is often credited with putting areas like Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst on the map.
The home boasts five bedrooms, but is currently set up as a four-bedroom with a media room on its second floor and original woodwork (such as a mantelpiece in the living room) and stained glass throughout. It also comes equipped with some of its original built-ins, like a wood-burning fireplace in the dining room.
The film, filmed largely in the shadow of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. In it, Travolta’s character works as a paint store clerk in Brooklyn, while also living for the weekends when he and his friends can go to the local disco and dance the night away.
