Suspect apprehended in home invasions and rapes in Williamsburg and Greenpoint

A 24-year-old man is being questioned in connection with three violent home invasions, robberies, and sexual assaults against women in Williamsburg and Greenpoint, said police.

The attacks took place within a three-hour time frame last night, Monday, August 12, and the suspect was later spotted by alert neighbors sleeping in a building near where the last victim lived.

Charges have not yet been filed.

The unnamed suspect is alleged to have begun the assault spree by knocking on the door of a Berry Street apartment building at 8 p.m.. When the 27-year-old occupant answered the door, the man is said to have punched her in the face and then sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious. When she awoke during the assault, her screams made him flee. The woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

At 9:45 p.m., the man rang the doorbell at a house on Engert Avenue near North Henry Street in Greenpoint. When a 40-year-old woman answered the door, he forced his way in and attempted to assault her but fled when the woman’s husband ran into the room.

Finally, at 10:30 p.m., a 47-year-old woman in a house on Nassau Street near Sufton Street was briefly assaulted before her roommate fought the man off with a broom. The suspect had gained entry via an unlocked door.

In all three incidents, the suspect allegedly grabbed iPhones and laptops as he fled.
