Police say a suspect has been arrested in connection to a pair of attempted abductions in Sunset Park and Borough Park, one of which took place on the same day another child was nearly kidnapped outside a busy Gravesend supermarket.
Sixty-eight-year-old Zhu Lin Shi of Sunset Park was arrested on Thursday, May 17 and charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree and menacing in the third degree.
According to authorities, at approximately 3:05 p.m. on Monday, May 7, a 10-year-old boy was walking home from school when he was approached from behind at the corner of Fort Hamilton Parkway and 58th Street by the suspect asking if he wanted ice cream.
When the boy refused and attempted to flee, cops say, the alleged perp grabbed him by his bookbag and held him there. The boy then attempted to bite the man, at which point the man released the child and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
Two days later, on Wednesday, May 9, police report that at about 3 p.m. another 10-year-old boy was walking home from school when he was approached by an unknown individual of the same description in front of 5302 Seventh Avenue. The suspect is said to have grabbed the child’s arm and prevented him from moving.
Cops say the boy then tried to kick the suspect, at which time the man released his grip and fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
Both boys were uninjured.
The first incident occurred the same afternoon 26-year-old Omar Dominguez approached a three-year-old who was accompanied by his grandmother outside of Thanksgiving Supermarket, 2239-2247 86th Street. Dominguez, who was later arrested, is accused of walking away with the stroller – and the child – when the guardian wasn’t looking.
He was chased down the street before leaving the baby and fleeing the scene, and was later charged with kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, petit larceny and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17.
