Over 50 of Park Slope’s most mouth-watering eateries were on hand at the Grand Prospect Hall on Wednesday, April 6 for the Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District’s annual Taste of Fifth – a smorgasbord of samples from foodie favorites along Fifth Avenue.

All evening, both diners and dishers were seen juggling plates and emptying taps, all while giving back to the nabe, with some of the night’s proceeds benefiting local charities.

For local business owners, the all-you-can-eat event boasts an opportunity to get to know the area’s clientele while also making connections with other local businesses.

“We’ve been doing this for three years now,” said Shannon Corrigan of Prospect Bar and Grill (545 Fifth Avenue). “It’s a great way to meet members of the community and advertise local businesses.”

Corrigan and coworkers had hearty helpings on hand, including the eatery’s sought-after mac and cheese and a sampling of brisket.

Right across the aisle, Sophie Grant, marketing director with Fleishers Craft Butchery (192 Fifth Avenue), was serving up some beef and pork meatballs, a helping that included basil, Romano cheese and a whole lot of love.

“We love coming to Taste of Fifth because we’re just a few minutes from here and we could serve food that we have ready to eat in our shops, ready for people to buy,” said Grant, noting that the shop – in Park Slope since 2011 – is focused on sourcing “locally and sustainably from farmers who really care about animal welfare” and “about the health of the people eating the end product.”

While Brewshot (291 Fifth Avenue), a breakfast and bagel shop on the strip, may be a new addition to the nabe, the eatery is no stranger to Taste of Fifth.

According to Alfredo Salazar from Brewshot, the shop now occupies the space of former bakery and bagel shop, Beygl.

“Events like Taste of Fifth help people know what’s out there and what tastes good while helping [Brewshot] get its name out there,” Salazar, a former employee at Beygl (now with Brewshot) said, noting that this is his second time at the event, but first with Brewshot whose owner contacted him following the changeover.

Specialty teas were going fast at the new shop’s table, as well as freshly baked turnovers and cinnamon rolls.

Meanwhile, there was no shortage of pizza at the event; with small restaurants and big business alike boasting their best slices and Italian eats.

Artichoke Pizza, Two Boots Pizza and La Villa Pizzeria were all on hand displaying menu items worthy of praise.

“[We’re] a classic Italian restaurant from Napoli and we believe in fresh to make and everything in our house [being] a part of home,” said La Villa Manager Steven Perez. “We like to have people come and join us and get a little touch of Italy.”

The night also saw no shortage of wine, spirits and beer as local bars and pubs like South Pub, the Monroe Pub, Brooklyn Bavarian Biergarten, ACME Wine and Spirits and Freddy’s Bar and Backroom were on hand to pour pints and glasses.

Catering to those with a sweet tooth as well, the grand ballroom played host to a number of local bakeries and sweet shops such as the Chocolate Room, which served up an intricate Brownie Sundae and Buttermilk Bakeshop, serving up its traditional whoopee pies and macaroons among other treats. To sip alongside the sweets, Gorilla Coffee provided attendees with an array of caffeinated cups, including traditional coffee, macchiatos and cappuccinos.

The Taste of Fifth is hosted yearly by the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID. This year’s sponsors included Kearny Bank, Forest City Ratner Companies, Yelp, Two Roads Brewing Company, Tito’s Vodka, Brooklyn Republic Vodka, Breukelen Distilling, Greenhook Ginsmiths, Paumanok Vineyards, Palmer Vineyards, Brooklyn Oenology, Townsquared, Cooper & Cooper Real Estate and Empire BlueCross BlueShield.
