“The Americans” sets up camp in Bay Ridge movie theater

On Wednesday, January 13, Bay Ridge’s Alpine Cinema, 68th Street and Fifth Avenue, was transformed into a set for the FX hit TV show, “The Americans.”

Although the filming took place inside the theater throughout the day, trailers for the actors and equipment trucks were parked throughout the area on 68th Street between Fourth and Sixth Avenues and on Fifth Avenue from Senator Street to Ovington Avenue.

The Alpine Cinema’s General Manager Michael Lathourakis said that, inside, the theater “was busy with a lot of people running around.”

Now in its fourth season, “The Americans” stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys who play Soviet spies living in the suburbs of Washington D.C. in the 1980’s and passing themselves off as Americans during the turmoil of the Cold War.

“The Americans” returns Wednesdays this March on FX.
