The sixth annual T.E.A.L run set to raise awareness for ovarian cancer at Prospect Park

On your mark, get set, race… for a great cause. The annual Tell Every Amazing Lady (T.E.A.L.) Walk/Run is taking place in Prospect Park on Saturday, September 6.

The event is designed to raise awareness for ovarian cancer, a disease that ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, according to the American Cancer Society.

“We are a Brooklyn based foundation,” said Pamela Esposito-Amery, co-founder, CEO, board president said of T.E.A.L. “This is an annual event. It’s our sixth year. We do a walk and a run. It’s a very family-oriented event. There is face painting, educational foods, and an athletic part of it.”

The T.E.A.L. Walk/Run also honors the courage of ovarian cancer survivors for their strength as well as raises money for research on the disease.

“We have a survival ceremony of ovarian cancer survivors. We love for them to be there so we can celebrate their lives,” said Esposito-Amery.

The walk portion of the event is 2.5 miles, while the run is 5k. The registration fee for both the walk and run is $35. Day of event registration is $40.

The event has been gaining recognition throughout the community. “We’ve been growing over the years. We’ve had thousands of people attend,” said Esposito-Amery.

She also discussed the nature of the disease “Ovarian cancer is deadly and hard to diagnose. We are raising money for research as well as to educate people on the risk factors,” said Esposito-Amery.

The T.E.A.L. Run/Walk also honors Louise M. McGregor, who was the co-founder of the organization and sister of Esposito-Amery.

Check in spans from 8-11 a.m. Educational booths will be stationed around the park. The 5K run will begin at 9 a.m. and the 2.5 mile walk at 11 a.m. Other activities include stage activities, survivor ceremony and finish line festivities.
