Two Brooklyn nonprofits among 10 tapped for excellence award

Two Brooklyn-based nonprofits – Groundswell and TNTP (formerly known as The New Teacher Project) — are sitting pretty among ten semifinalists for the 2015 New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards.

“Groundswell is honored to be counted among the New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards semifinalists and thrilled to be recognized for our innovative and effective management practices,” said Amy Sananman, founder and executive director of the organization, which brings youth, artists and community partners together in an effort to make public art that advances social change.

“We believe it is a testament of our talented staff’s deep commitment to our mission: helping public school systems provide a great education for all students,” echoed Daniel Weisberg, CEO for TNTP, an organization that aims to end the injustice of education inequality by bringing its best teachers to classrooms in need. “It’s a core value that TNTP be a great place to work and a powerful, full-service partner for dozens of public school districts, charter management organizations and state departments of education nationwide.”

The semifinalists – chosen from a pool of 56 applicants – are each looking to win $60,000 in prizes as well as tuition scholarships for the Columbia Business School Education Programs in Social Enterprise.
