Two commercial strips in Bensonhurst, Bath Beach to be added to NYC Cleanup Initiative

Eight major commercial corridors within the 47^th Council District – which encompasses Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, Coney Island, Gravesend and Sea Gate – will see continued and expanded cleaning services thanks to funding secured by Councilmember Mark Treyger as part of the Council’s NYC Cleanup Initiative.

The pol has allocated $200,000 to continue cleaning services along six routes currently being cleaned and to expand services to two additional thoroughfares. In addition, through his role as co-chair of the Council’s Brooklyn Delegation, Treyger helped secure a 24 percent increase in the amount of money designated to each of the city’s 51 Council Districts.

“Clean streets are an integral factor in maintaining a high quality of life standard in our community,” said Treyger. “Filthy streets discourage consumers from shopping, negatively impacting our local small businesses. I am continuing to make clean, comfortable and consumer-friendly commercial corridors in our community one of my top priorities to ensure that residents of the 47th District can conduct their daily business in the cleanest, safest environment possible.”

The six routes that will continue to see cleanings four days a week are: 18^th Avenue between 68^th Street and 86^th Street; 86^th Street between 18^th Avenue and 26^th Avenue; Avenue U between Ocean Parkway and Stillwell Avenue; Avenue X between Ocean Parkway and Stillwell Avenue; Kings Highway between McDonald Avenue and Ocean Parkway; and Mermaid Avenue between Stillwell Avenue and West 31^st Street.

As a result of the additional funding, 20^th Avenue between 61^st Street and 76^th Street as well as Bath Avenue between 25^th Avenue and Bay 25^th Street will now be cleaned four days a week.

The NYC Cleanup Initiative, originally spearheaded by Brooklyn Councilmember David Greenfield, first launched in 2015.
